VI Chemical Peels FAQs
Unlike other chemical peels there is no skin preconditioning and have minimal downtime and include a comprehensive patient take home kit. VI peels are suitable for exfoliating the face and body. They also have vitamins and minerals which nurture the skin at the same time as it is going through, he exfoliation process. VI peels are suitable for a variety of skin types and concerns.
VI Peel is for all skin types and body treatments. It has active ingredients including TCA, Salicylic Acid, Retinoic Acid, Phenol, Vitamin C and a proprietary mineral blend. VI Purify is for oily, blemish prone skin, acne vilgaris, acne scarring and acne simplex. It has active ingredients including Benzoyl Peroxide, Kojic Acid, Hydrocortisone, TCA, Salicylic Acid, Retinoic Acid, Phenol, Vitamin C and a proprietary mineral blend.
Yes. Melasma can be treated with Vi Peel. It is suggested to have a series of VI Peels when a person has melasma as it may be deep in the layers of the skin and take a series of peels to lift the damage. It is not suggested to be overly aggressive on melasma while applying the peel, which is why a series is often best, as it can add inflammation and heat to the skin which can worsen the condition.
In general, you receive the peel on day one and start peeling on or around day three. Every peel can be different, but in general you can expect peeling during days 3-7. Peeling may last additional days for some individuals. Body peeling tends to take a little longer for the peeling process to occur and peeling can occur during days 3-10.
There are many reasons why you may not see the peeling. Even if you can’t see something with the naked eye, the VI peel is still working for you and exfoliating at the cellular level to brighten and improve your skin’s appearance. If you have further questions or concerns, please call our office and speak to your practitioner. In some cases, an impacted stratum corneum may result in no peeling. It may take 2 or more treatments to break this down.
You should refrain from exercising for 72-96 hours after receiving the VI Peel to prevent any blistering in the skin or Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH). If prone to PIH or with pigment damage/melasma it is suggested to refrain for the entire 7 day peeling process as not to induce heat or inflammation in the skin that can lead to further damage.
After the VI Peel solution is applied to the skin no makeup or any topical products can be applied for the first 4 hours. At the 4 hour mark, the patient can then cleanser the skin and then apply the first towelette. It is suggested to wait 10 minutes, use the Post Peel Protectant as a moisturizer and then makeup as normal. You can also wear makeup on day two after you have washed your face in the morning and applied the post peel protectant and SPF. You should NOT use your regular moisturizers on the skin for the full 7 day exfoliation process as it may have alcohol content or other ingredients that we do not want to damage the skin as it is preparing for peeling and shedding.
